A major highlight is a visit to the Cistercian Abbey of Heiligenkreuz, founded in 1133 and still an active monastery today. During a guided walk through the abbey
church, cloisters and courtyard, you will experience a remarkable blend of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, along with insights into monastic life past and present. At
12:00 noon, you may attend the monks’ traditional choral prayer — a deeply atmospheric moment that offers a rare glimpse into living monastic life.
Mayerling – a tragic chapter of Habsburg history
We then proceed to Mayerling, the former hunting lodge associated with the tragic death of Crown Prince Rudolf in 1889. Your guide will explain the historical context and the enduring mystery surrounding this pivotal event in Habsburg history.
